My approach is a trauma-informed and narrative-focused, with an emphasis on critical consciousness raising from a state of evolving cultural humility and supplemented by techniques and interventions drawn from other frameworks. Together we can examine the story of your life together, trace its many roots and branches into the stories that surround us all, and chart new paths for growth and understanding. We contextualize this with mapping out the web of relationships that inform your sense of self and the world, and what allies can support you in your journey and share in the celebration of your achievements.
I position myself as a comrade and co-conspirator in the lives of those experiencing and reliving trauma in an increasingly alienating world. I walk with my fellow travelers as they share their stories with me, offering a collaborative approach as we seek new ways of being and seeing together.
I am particularly passionate about serving transitional age youth and those navigating experiences of marginalization in the areas of neurodivergence, queer identity, and subaltern cultural affiliation. I operate from a position of curiosity, empathy and mutual respect, acknowledging and incorporating the expertise that every person has to offer in their own path to healing.
I have a long history with the field of mental health on both sides of the divide and have seen how difficult it can be to navigate and how much harm that can cause. I chose to enter this field to help it be better for the people seeking care, informed by an academic path that took me through the social sciences and eventually into clinical social work. I am also a lifelong lover of speculative fiction, an avid participant in the folk tradition of roleplaying games, and most at home hiking under thick, green canopies or listening to the sounds of the ocean.
